Parklex Hy Tek | Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao
One of the most notable projects by Parklex is the main halls of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, which are fitted with Hy Tek since its opening in 1997. Despite being a high-traffic space seeing a footfall of 1.5 million visitors per year on average, the timber floor remains almost as good as new even after many years of use. For the Guggenheim, Parklex developed a new light-toned Ash veneer and named it Museum Ash.
Parklex Hy Tek is natural timber-surfaced floors for interiors that is highly durable and resistant to damage. Available in a wide variety of natural wood finishes that are slip resistant, wear resistant and scratch resistant, a moisture resistant surface can be applied when installed in areas that may be exposed to frequent contact with water. Like all of Parklex’s products, Hy Tek is engineered to be of zero to extremely low maintenance. This is especially important for commercial or hospitality projects where down-time for replacement or repairs can prove to be very costly. Hy Tek is also perfect for homes where owners value the durability and longevity of the product, as there will be no need to re-varnish or repair the floor even after many years of use.
Architects and interior designers are frequently hampered by the limited widths of flooring materials available on the market, many floor panels do not go beyond widths of 150 or 200 mm. Hy Tek is available in 188mm, 290mm and 590mm in widths. They are thus excited when wider flooring panels are available, and they are also able to mix flooring strip widths in the same project.
