Cyberlock Access Control System
As we all know, the standard mechanical keys and locks are commonly used in all our doors, gates, cupboards, in fact almost everywhere. But these mechanical locks and keys have its own flaws and security limitations. Find out how CyberLock from the USA – a comprehensive and robust access control system with full audit trails – can overcome these limitations.
Security
Standard mechanical keys can be duplicated easily. Even with a key management process in place, asset owners are still unable to stop key-holders from duplicating keys.
CyberLock’s Cyberkey on the other hand cannot be duplicated. Each Cyberkey has an unique ID and the access has to be programmed by asset owner’s system in order to open the Cyberlocks within the facility.
Access Audit Trails
Standard mechanical locks and keys are not able to keep track when and who has accessed a door. With Cyberlock and Cyberkey, every attempt to access will generate an event log. These event logs are keep in the memory chip on both the keys and locks. These will allow asset owners to keep track and account for all the access by the authorised operational personnel.
Lost Key Management
When a mechanical master key is lost, asset owners have to incur cost to re-key all the existing locks and replace all the other master keys within that set. This is costly and inefficient. During this replacement period, if anyone picks up the lost key; they will be able to gain access to that group of doors.
With Cyberkey, when the key is lost, asset owner can immediately mark the key as lost to disable the rights to locks. At the same time, a new key can be issued to replace the lost key and allow user to continue with daily operations. Each Cyberkey has multiple security functions in place. A time frame can be programmed on each key to limit the access duration. No cost to replace any locks when keys are lost.
Ease Of Access
Each mechanical lock usually comes with 3 or 4 keys, some brands provide master keys for a group of lock. Different doors, gates or padlocks installed during different phases will come with a different set of keys. For a facility management personnel or technician, he or she will need to carry a big bunch of keys. If any of the key drops, he or she may not be aware until the need to access that door.
With Cyberlock system, each user just need to carry one Cyberkey. Each Cyberkey can be programmed to have access to unlimited number of locks within the facility.
Durability
Mechanical locks do not last. For high traffic access doors, mechanical locks and keys will wear out over time. Key ways within the mechanical locks are prone to corrosion due to water and dirt. Additionally, these locks can be easily sabotaged.
Cyberlock does not have any key way; no more “broken” locks.
Project
Singapore Post has been using Cyberlock for all the 980 postal boxes in Singapore since 2009. Most of them are situated outdoor and to date, none of the Cyberlock require replacement.
